Overview & Specifications
What Are Donut Boxes?
Donut boxes are flat bakery boxes sized to a layout of donuts side by side, rather than stacked. The low profile keeps glazes and toppings from touching each other or the lid, and the wide top gives a large print panel.
Donut Boxes sit in the Tuck Boxes range and under Bakery Packaging.
What it has to do
What Donuts Need from Their Box
Donuts need a layout for the count, a lid that clears toppings, a coating that handles glaze and oil, a view of the assortment and board suited to direct contact. Each need below is matched to the option that meets it.
01
A
A Layout for the Count
Donuts sit side by side in rows: one, a half dozen or a dozen. The box footprint comes from the donut diameter and the row layout; spacing between donuts depends on that layout.02
A
A Lid That Clears Toppings
Sprinkles, icing and filled donuts are taller in the center. Height is set from the tallest topped donut.03
A
A Coating for Glaze and Oil
Fried dough and glaze leave oil and sugar on board. A grease-resistant coating is available and chosen with the board.04
A
A View of the Assortment
A die-cut window with a clear PET patch shows the mix. See Window Packaging Boxes.05
Food-Contact
Food-Contact Board for Bare Donuts
Donuts usually go in without wrapping. Food-contact board is supplied on request when the quote states direct contact. Confirm all food-contact surfaces, including coatings, inserts and any film, for the food type, contact time and temperature.
Half Dozen vs Dozen Donut Boxes
Choose the box by the count you sell most; a dozen box is wider, not taller. The table compares the two common layouts.
| Attribute | Half Dozen Box | Dozen Box |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | 2 rows of 3 | 3 rows of 4 or 2 rows of 6 |
| Footprint | Smaller | About twice the area |
| Base | Confirmed on the dieline | Confirmed on the dieline and a packed sample |
| Typical use | Small orders, gifts | Office and party orders |

What Size Donut Box Do I Need?
Measure your largest donut's diameter and the tallest topping, then set the row layout for the count. Final allowances are set on the approved dieline.
| Measurement | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Donut | Largest diameter |
| Height | Tallest topped or filled donut |
| Count | 1, 6, 12 or another count |
| Layout | Rows and columns |
Fill a Box With Topped Donuts
Fill the box with your tallest topped donuts, close it and carry it flat. Check lid clearance, the base and any grease marking.
What to Check Before Bulk Production
Review a sample filled with topped donuts and the final artwork. Record the approved layout, height and coating on the signed-off sample.
| If the sample shows | Review before approval |
|---|---|
| Toppings touch the lid | Increase height |
| Donuts slide in the box | Tighten the layout |
| Grease marks the board | Confirm grease-resistant coating on a sample |
Seven days covers standard production from approved proof once the specification is confirmed; delivery timing is confirmed separately.
