Overview & Specifications
What Is Point of Sale Packaging?
Point of sale packaging is display packaging placed where the customer pays. A countertop display box holds small, low-price items within reach at the till, with a header card that names the product and price.
Point of Sale Packaging sits in Retail Packaging.
What it has to do
What a Checkout Display Has to Do
A checkout display has to fit a small counter space, be seen at the till, hold small items within reach and be easy to refill. Each need below is matched to how it is met.
01
Fit
Fit the Counter Space
Counter space at checkout is limited and set by the store. The footprint is sized to the space allowed, not to the product alone.02
Be
Be Seen at the Till
A header card carries the brand and price point. Its visibility is checked at the actual counter position, where customers stand and pay.03
Hold
Hold Small Items Within Reach
A tray with a front lip holds small units upright so customers can take one. Retention is checked on a loaded sample.04
Easy
Easy to Refill
Staff refill the display from stock. An open tray or lift-out insert makes refilling quick, depending on the configuration.
Point of Sale Packaging vs Aisle Display Box
Point of sale packaging sits on the checkout counter; an aisle display box sits on a shelf or table in the store. The table compares them.
| Attribute | Point of Sale Packaging | Aisle Display Box |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Checkout counter | Shelf or table in the aisle |
| Footprint | Small, set by the counter space allowed | Set by shelf depth and height |
| Typical items | Small impulse items | Groups of the same product |
| Sign | Header card at the counter | Header or front panel |

What Size Counter Display Do I Need?
Start from the counter space the store allows, then fit the units and header within it. Final dimensions are set on the approved dieline.
| Measurement | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Counter space | Width and depth allowed |
| Unit | Size and weight of one item |
| Count | Units per display |
| Header | Height allowed above the tray |
Check It at the Counter
Place a loaded sample on a real or mock counter. Check the footprint, reach and header visibility from where customers stand. This sample checks counter use; if displays ship packed with product, transit performance is verified separately under test conditions agreed for the complete packed case.
What to Check Before Bulk Production
Review a loaded sample placed at a counter, printed with the final artwork. Record the approved configuration, board and header on the signed-off sample. Where a sample shows a problem, review the cause, revise the specification and confirm it on another loaded sample.
| If the sample shows | Cause to review |
|---|---|
| Header hidden from the customer | Header height and counter position |
| Units fall out when one is taken | Front lip height and dividers |
| Display too large for the counter | Footprint against counter space |
| Display tips when part-empty | Board and base configuration |
Seven days covers standard production from approved proof once the specification is confirmed; delivery timing is confirmed separately, so count back from the date the display goes in store.
