Overview & Specifications
What Are Rigid Candle Boxes?
Rigid candle boxes are presentation boxes for candle jars, tins and sets, built from wrapped greyboard on the Shoulder Neck Rigid Box structure: a base, a raised inner neck and a removable lid. The neck guides the lid square over a heavy jar, and an insert inside it keeps the vessel centered.
They are part of the Rigid Boxes range. For folding cartons and the full range of candle packaging, see Candle Packaging.
What it has to do
What a Candle Needs from the Box
A candle box has to fit the real vessel and lid, carry glass weight, keep the jar centered, hold the care and safety copy and organize sets with accessories. Each need below is matched to how the box meets it.
01
Size
Size From the Vessel, Not the oz
Internal dimensions should account for the candle vessel, lid, decorative components and clearance required for an insert. Developing the box around the actual product creates a more controlled presentation.02
Carry
Carry Glass Weight
Glass jars are heavy for their size. Board thickness and the insert are selected around the packed vessel weight; the neck's job is to guide lid alignment.03
Keep
Keep the Jar Centered
A fitted base or insert can help keep jars and candle vessels positioned during handling and display. Rigid walls alone should not be treated as complete transit protection.04
Carry
Carry Care and Safety Copy
Exterior and interior surfaces can carry scent names, care instructions, burn guidance, brand details and other required copy supplied by the brand. ASTM F2058-07(2021) covers fire-safety labeling for candle units of sale; the brand determines the required warning content and its compliant placement.05
Organize
Organize Gift Sets
Fitted inserts or supports can hold candle vessels in a planned position and organize multi-product sets with matches, wick trimmers or diffusers.
Which Rigid Structure Fits Your Candle Box?
Rigid candle boxes are built on the shoulder neck structure. The raised neck guides lid alignment and can show a contrasting band when closed, and the insert sits inside the neck.
| Structure | How It Opens | Best for | Decision Factor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shoulder Neck Rigid Box | Lid lifts off to reveal a neck around the jar | Single jars, tins, candle sets | Neck guides lid alignment; board and insert chosen for packed weight |
Rigid Candle Box vs Folding Candle Carton
A rigid candle box is wrapped greyboard set up at the factory, with a neck, a fitted insert and a lid that lifts off; it suits gifting and higher price points. A folding candle carton is printed paperboard that ships flat and folds around the jar, suited to shelf retail; it typically uses less material and can be lower-cost depending on specification and volume.
| Attribute | Rigid Candle Box | Folding Candle Carton |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Wrapped greyboard, 1.5–3.0 mm | Printed paperboard |
| Arrives | Set up | Flat, folded at packing |
| Opening | Lid lifts off over a neck | Tuck flap |
| Insert | Fitted insert inside the neck | Partition or none |
| Best fit | Gift candles, sets, higher price points | Shelf retail, larger volumes |

What Size Rigid Candle Box Do I Need?
Size the box from the vessel with its lid, not from the oz on the label. Jars marketed as "8 oz" containers can differ widely: one 8 oz jelly jar on the market is about 3.75 in high and 2.5 in wide, while one 8 oz tureen jar is about 2.5 in high and 3.8 in wide.
| Vessel Example (market reference) | Height | Diameter | What It Shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jar marketed as 8 oz (jelly) | About 3.75 in | About 2.5 in (top) | Tall and narrow |
| Jar marketed as 8 oz (tureen) | About 2.5 in | About 3.8 in (top) | Short and wide |
Measure: the widest diameter (or width and depth), overall height with the final lid, any lid overhang, filled weight, and the dimensions of any accessories in a set.
Insert: add the insert's wall and base around the jar.
Neck and board: decide how much neck should show, then the neck and base add board and wrap thickness to each exterior dimension.
Important: These are market examples, not Packaging Dock sizes. Send the actual vessel or its drawing, and the insert and box are sized from it and confirmed on a sample. Full allowances are on the Shoulder Neck Rigid Box page.
