Overview & Specifications
What Are Christmas Gift Boxes?
Christmas gift boxes are boxes printed for one season and one occasion. A rigid box holds a gift set and is kept after the holiday; a folding carton holds cookies or treats that are given and eaten. Both carry Christmas artwork chosen by the brand rather than a stock holiday print.
Christmas Gift Boxes sit in Holiday & Seasonal Packaging and are built on Custom Two Piece Rigid Boxes, Custom Flip Top Rigid Boxes, Custom Drawer Boxes or Custom Straight Tuck End Boxes.
What it has to do
What a Christmas Gift Box Has to Get Right
A Christmas box has to arrive on time for one short season, present a gift set as one piece, keep treats in good condition and keep dark festive colors looking clean. Each need below is matched to how it is met.
01
Ready
Ready Before the Season
Christmas stock has to be on shelves or packed for gifting by late November or early December. The run is planned backward from your in-hand date: proof approval, 7 days of production, then transit.02
Set
A Set That Reads as One Gift
A gift set of three or four items looks like one present when each item sits in its own insert cavity at the same height, with the lid closing flat over them.03
Treats
Treats That Arrive as Baked
Butter cookies and chocolate release fat into plain paperboard and can mark it. The board, coatings, inks, adhesives and any liner, insert or window film are checked for the food type, how long it stays in the box and the storage temperature, per order.04
Dark
Dark Colors That Stay Clean
Deep red, green and black solids show fingerprints and scuffs more than light colors. No finish prevents marking by default, so marking resistance is checked on the printed sample with the chosen lamination.
Rigid vs Folding Christmas Boxes
Choose a rigid box for a keepsake gift set and a folding carton for treats and higher-volume giveaways. The table compares the two.
| Attribute | Rigid Christmas Gift Box | Folding Christmas Treat Box |
|---|---|---|
| Construction | Greyboard wrapped in printed paper | Single printed paperboard carton |
| Opening | Lift-off lid, flip-top with magnet, or drawer | Tuck end |
| Typical contents | Gift sets, cosmetics, candles, spirits accessories | Cookies, chocolates, candy |
| After the holiday | Often kept and reused | Disposal depends on materials, coatings and local acceptance |
| Assembly and shipping | Depends on the structure and specification | Depends on the structure and specification |

What Size Christmas Gift Box Do I Need?
Measure the gift set as it will be packed, with any wrap or tissue, then add room for the insert walls. Final dimensions are set on the approved dieline.
| Measurement | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Items | Length, width and height of each item |
| Layout | Side by side, stacked or in rows |
| Treats | Count and how they are wrapped |
| Extras | Card, ribbon or tissue inside |
Check the Set on a Sample
Pack a sample with every item and close it. Check that the lid sits flat and nothing moves when the box is tilted.
What to Check Before Bulk Production
Review a packed sample printed with the final Christmas artwork. Record the approved structure, insert and finish on the signed-off sample. Where a sample shows a problem, review the cause, revise the specification and confirm it on another packed sample.
| If the sample shows | Cause to review |
|---|---|
| Items rattle | Cavity size against the real items |
| Grease marks on the board | Board, coating and liner against the food, contact time and temperature |
| Foil edges look broken | Foil line weight and the board or wrap surface |
| Lid will not close flat | Insert height against box depth |
Seven days covers standard production from approved proof once the specification is confirmed; delivery timing is confirmed separately, so count back from your Christmas in-hand date.
