Overview & Specifications

What Is a Straight Tuck End Box?

A straight tuck end box, or STE carton, is a paperboard folding carton with a glued side seam and a tuck flap at each end, where both the top and bottom tucks hinge from the same main panel. Because both ends close the same way, the front and back panels stay consistent, which makes artwork, windows and hang tabs simpler to plan.

How the Same-Side Tucks Work

The format works through three features on one blank.

01

Glued Side Seam

The carton is glued into a flat tube during production and opens into a rectangle when squared up.

02

Same-Panel Tuck Flaps

Both tuck flaps hinge from the same main panel. Each folds over its end and slides inside the facing panel, so both ends open in the same direction.

03

Dust Flaps

Side-panel flaps fold under each tuck to close the corners and support the closure.

Anatomy of a Straight Tuck End Box

  • 01

    Front Panel

Main display face, uninterrupted by tuck hinges.

  • 02

    Back Panel

    Carries both tuck flaps.

  • 03

    Top and Bottom Tucks

    Hinge from the same panel.

  • 04

    Dust Flaps

    Fold in under each tuck.

  • 05

    Glue Flap

    Forms the side seam.

Artwork note

With both tucks on the same panel, the top and bottom flaps print in the same orientation, so end-panel text reads consistently when the carton is turned.

Application guide

When Is a Straight Tuck End Box the Right Choice?

A straight tuck end box suits retail products where the front panel is the selling face, such as cosmetics, skincare, soap, small accessories and peg-hook items. It is also the structure behind Packaging Dock's hang tab tuck boxes.

  • 01

    Consistent

    Consistent Front Presentation

Both ends open toward the same side, so the front panel carries uninterrupted artwork, a window or a product photo.
  • 02

    Platform

    Platform for Display Features

Hang tabs, windows and inserts can be added to the same straight tuck structure.
  • 03

    Re-Openable

    Re-Openable Ends

Both tucks open and re-seat for product access, unless a seal or tear strip is added.
  • 04

    Alternative

When Another Format May Fit Better

When a consistent front is not needed, a Reverse Tuck Box closes its ends in opposite directions and can fit efficiently within the blank on many proportions. For a locked bottom, see the Auto Lock Box or Snap Lock Box, and for peel-and-seal ends, the Seal End Box.
Customization

Customize Your Straight Tuck End Boxes

Straight tuck end boxes can be configured across dimensions, board, tuck depth, front-panel features, inserts, print coverage and finishes, so the front face, the ends and any hang tab work together as one retail display.

01

Tuck Flap Depth

Set flap depth around carton width so both ends close and stay closed. Reference allowances are in the size guide.

02

Front-Panel Presentation

Plan the main artwork, window or product photo on the panel without tuck hinges.

03

Hang Tab and Windows

Add a hang tab for peg-hook display, as on the Hang Tab Tuck Box, or a die-cut window with or without film.

04

Board and Insert Fit

Choose board and inserts around product weight and size, including the load on a hang tab.

05

Printing and Finishes

Offset, digital, UV or screen printing in CMYK and Pantone spot colors can be paired with matte, gloss or soft-touch lamination, aqueous or grease-resistant coating, foil stamping, emboss/deboss, Spot UV and raised 3D UV.

06

Sustainability Options

Kraft or recycled paperboard with aqueous coating gives a fiber-based configuration, and an open die-cut window avoids a plastic film. Final recyclability depends on the inks, coatings, adhesives and local facilities.

FAQ

Straight Tuck End Box FAQs

What is a straight tuck end box?

A straight tuck end box is a paperboard folding carton with a glued side seam and tuck flaps at both ends that hinge from the same panel, so both ends open toward the same side.

What is the difference between straight tuck end and reverse tuck?

Straight tuck end hinges both tucks from the same panel; a Reverse Tuck Box hinges them from opposite panels, so the ends close in opposite directions.

Why choose straight tuck end over reverse tuck?

Choose it when a consistent front panel, a window or a hang tab is part of the retail display.

Is a straight tuck end box a lock-bottom box?

No. It closes with tucks at both ends. The Auto Lock Box and Snap Lock Box use locked bottoms.

Can a hang tab be added?

Yes. Hang Tab Boxes use a straight tuck end configuration with an integrated header tab for peg hooks.

Can it be used for cologne and lipstick cartons?

Yes. Cologne Boxes and Custom Lipstick Boxes can use straight tuck end construction, among other tuck structures.

Can a window be added?

Yes, where the front panel and board support it, with or without a clear film.

Can the box be resealed after opening?

A standard tuck can be re-inserted, but any adhesive, seal label or tear strip changes that.

What board thickness should I choose?

As a guide, about 14–16 pt suits small light items, 18–20 pt suits most retail cartons, 22–28 pt or E/F-flute corrugated suits larger or heavier products, and B-flute corrugated suits large multi-unit cartons.

How do I measure for a straight tuck end box?

Quote inside length × width × depth, where length and width form the opening at the tuck end. The size guide lists allowances.

Are straight tuck end boxes good for shipping?

They are retail cartons. For parcel shipping, they usually travel inside a shipper or mailer box.

What is the minimum order for custom straight tuck end boxes?

The minimum order is 500 units, and higher volumes are quoted on the agreed specification.

How long does production take?

Standard production is 7 days from approved proof once the final specification is confirmed, and rush production is available on request. Windows or hang tabs may add sampling time.

How much do custom straight tuck end boxes cost?

Pricing starts from $0.85 per unit. Unit price depends on size, board, print coverage, add-ons, finishes and quantity. Quote requests typically receive a response within 24 hours.

Can I get a sample before ordering?

Yes. Complimentary sample kits ship within two business days; the customer covers shipping. A pre-production sample can also confirm the front panel and fit.

Where do you ship custom straight tuck end boxes?

Orders ship flat across the USA and worldwide. Transit method, delivery time and shipping cost depend on the destination, order volume and shipment requirements.

What artwork file formats can I submit?

The quote form accepts PDF, JPG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF, AI, EPS and PSD files, up to 3 files at 8 MB each. A custom dieline with the front panel marked is provided, with free design support.
