Overview & Specifications
What Are Custom Cosmetic Rigid Boxes?
Custom cosmetic rigid boxes are rigid presentation boxes for skincare, makeup and beauty sets, with fitted compartments that give each container a planned position. They are built on the Two Piece Rigid Box or Shoulder Neck Rigid Box structure, with the lid lifting off to show the full set.
They are part of the Rigid Boxes range. For folding cartons and the full range of beauty packaging, see Cosmetics & Skincare Packaging.
What it has to do
What a Cosmetic Set Needs from the Box
A cosmetic rigid box has to fit containers of different shapes, lay a routine out in order, carry application steps, hold the label copy the outer container needs and use every surface for the brand and present the set as one product. Each need below is matched to how the box meets it.
01
Fit
Fit Mixed Container Shapes
Cosmetic containers vary in height, shape, weight and closure profile. Dimensions and inserts follow the actual components and their required clearances.02
Lay
Lay a Routine Out in Order
Fitted inserts and compartments can arrange skincare or makeup products so each item has a deliberate position when the box opens, such as cleanser, serum and cream from left to right.03
Carry
Carry Application Steps
The inside lid or interior surfaces can carry application steps, product story or campaign information where the selected structure supports it.04
Hold
Hold the Outer-Container Label Copy
When cosmetics are sold in an outer box, the finished labeling must include the information required for that product and package configuration, such as identity, net quantity and ingredients. The rigid box can carry brand-supplied ingredients, directions, warnings or product information where required, but the box itself does not establish cosmetic-product compliance.05
Use
Use Every Surface for the Brand
Rigid wraps, inside lids and insert areas can carry color, instructions, campaign artwork and finishes such as foil and Spot UV where compatible.06
Present
Present the Set as One Product
A rigid box can present one featured product or arrange several items into a defined collection, with the lid lifting off to show every item at once.
Which Rigid Structure Fits Your Cosmetic Set?
Cosmetic rigid boxes are built on two structures. Choose Two Piece for a lid that lifts fully off to show the whole set, and Shoulder Neck for a layered reveal with a raised collar around the products.
| Structure | How It Opens | Best for | Decision Factor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two Piece Rigid Box | Lid lifts fully off | Routines and larger sets | Full access to every compartment |
| Shoulder Neck Rigid Box | Lid lifts to reveal a neck around the set | Hero products and gift editions | Collar band visible when closed |
Rigid Cosmetic Box vs Folding Cosmetic Carton
A rigid cosmetic box is wrapped greyboard set up at the factory, with fitted compartments and a lid that lifts off; it suits sets, gifting and launch kits. A folding carton is printed paperboard that ships flat, commonly used for individual retail products though it can also be configured for sets; it typically uses less material and can be lower-cost depending on specification and volume.
| Attribute | Rigid Cosmetic Box | Folding Cosmetic Carton |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Wrapped greyboard, 1.5–3.0 mm | Printed paperboard |
| Arrives | Set up | Flat, folded at packing |
| Holds | Sets and routines in compartments | Commonly individual products; can be configured for sets |
| Opening | Lid lifts off | Tuck flap |
| Best fit | Gift sets, PR kits, routines | Single-product shelf retail |

What Size Cosmetic Rigid Box Do I Need?
Size a cosmetic rigid box from the set layout. List every container with its dimensions and closure, decide whether each stands or lies flat, arrange them in order, then add insert walls and board to reach the box size.
| Set Type | Start With |
|---|---|
| Jar and serum | Largest width and depth plus the tallest item |
| Three-step skincare routine | An ordered row or grouped routine |
| Makeup set | Palette footprint plus tubes and compacts |
| Mixed beauty gift set | Overall arrangement and compartment spacing |
List every container with height, width and depth (caps and pumps included), choose the orientation product by product for the approved container and insert, lay compartments out in routine order with walls between items, then add board and, on shoulder neck builds, the neck.
Important: Send the items or their drawings where possible. The insert and box are sized from them and confirmed on a sample. Full allowances are on the Two Piece and Shoulder Neck pages.
