Overview & Specifications
What Is a Seal End Gable Box?
A seal end gable box is a folding paperboard carry carton whose lower panels are sealed with a peel-and-seal adhesive strip to form a closed base, while the sloped upper panels close into a built-in handle. It shares the peel-and-seal closure principle with a Seal End Box, but the gable roof and handle make it a separate structure.
How the Seal End Gable Box Works
The format works through three construction details.
01
Adhesive Strip Already on the Base
An adhesive strip is applied to the base panels in production and protected by a peel-off cover until packing.
02
Peel and Press to Seal
At packing, the carton is opened, the base panels are folded in, the cover is peeled off and the panels are pressed together, giving a closed lower end without glue guns or sealing equipment.
03
Gable Top and Handle
Access is through the top: the roof panels close over the contents and meet at the handle panels, where a die-cut hand opening forms the grip.
Anatomy of a Seal End Gable Box
01
Base Panels
Fold in and seal to form the closed lower end.
02
Adhesive Strip and Cover
Applied in production, peeled at packing.
03
Body Panels
Front, back and side print surfaces.
04
Gable Roof Panels
Sloped top panels that close over the contents.
05
Handle Panels
Meet at the top with a die-cut hand opening.
06
Side Seam
Glued in production.
The strip position on the base is marked on the dieline, and the finish where the strip seals is chosen so it bonds reliably. Branding belongs on the side panels and gable roof.

| Top | Gable roof with carry handle | Peel-and-seal end flaps |
| Access | Through the top | By breaking or opening a sealed end |
| Typical use | Carry-out food, favors and gifts | Retail cartons on filling lines |
Application guide
When Is a Seal End Gable Box the Right Choice?
A seal end gable box suits carry-out packing where a closed, sealed base and a built-in handle work together: catering and food pickups, party favors and gift assortments, bakery and confectionery orders, and retail takeaway packs that replace a shopping bag.
01
Simple
Simple Peel-and-Seal Packing
The strip already on the box removes the need to interlock bottom panels or run glue at packing: fold, peel and press.02
Defined
Defined Closed Base
The strip sits in the same place on every box, giving a consistent lower closure for contained products. The adhesive improves closure retention but does not make the box leak-proof, hermetic or tamper-proof.03
Carrying
Carrying and Presentation in One Carton
The same box carries side-panel branding, holds the product and provides a hand-carry handle.04
Alternative
When Another Format May Fit Better
If a pre-glued base that locks as the carton opens suits the line, compare the Auto Lock Gable Box. Where hand assembly and no glue at the base are preferred, an Interlock Gable Box engages its bottom panels by hand.

How Seal End Gable Compares to Other Gable Box Structures
| Attribute | Seal End Gable | Auto Lock Gable | Interlock Gable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | Panels sealed with a peel-and-seal strip | Pre-glued, locks on opening | Panels folded and engaged by hand |
| Base steps at packing | Fold, peel cover, press | Open and square | Fold in sequence |
| Adhesive at the base | Peel-and-seal strip, applied in production | Pre-glued in production | None |
| Top | Gable handle | Gable handle | Gable handle |
| Best fit | Sealed base without glue equipment | Repeated packing, fewer base steps | Hand assembly, no pre-glue |
What Size Seal End Gable Box Do You Need?
Quote by inside base length × width × body height. Length and width set the sealed base footprint, and body height runs to where the roof begins; the gable roof and handle sit above that and are drawn on the dieline together with the strip position.
There is no fixed size list: any practical size is built to order, across the full board range below.
How Product Size Becomes Box Size
The figures below are planning references, not fixed manufacturing rules; final allowances depend on product shape, insert and board.
| Step | Typical Allowance |
|---|---|
| Product to inside length and width | Add about 2–3 mm (1/8 in) for top filling |
| Product to body height | Add about 3–5 mm so contents clear the roof fold |
| With a liner or tray | Size to the liner or tray's outer dimensions |
| Several items | Size to the packed layout |
Paperboard Caliper Reference
| Board | Typical Thickness | Typically Suited To |
|---|---|---|
| About 14–16 pt | About 0.36–0.41 mm | Small favors and samples |
| About 18–20 pt | About 0.46–0.51 mm | Wrapped candy and light gifts |
| About 22–24 pt | About 0.56–0.61 mm | Bakery orders and gift sets |
| About 26–28 pt | About 0.66–0.71 mm | Larger boxes and fuller packs |
| E- or F-flute corrugated | About 0.8–1.6 mm | Added stiffness at larger sizes |
| B-flute corrugated | About 3 mm | Large catering and multi-item boxes |
Important: These are reference figures. Carrying capacity depends on board, handle, seal, dimensions and packed load, so no weight rating is published without testing the finished box.
If you are unsure, share the product dimensions and packed weight with the quote request, and the box is sized around them.
Planning the Strip Position on the Base
The adhesive strip and the panel overlap it seals against are set on the dieline, with board and finish chosen so the seals reliably. The sample confirms the seal with the packed product before the run.
