Overview & Specifications
What Are Gable Boxes with Window?
A gable box with window is a standard gable carton with an aperture cut into one or more panels. The window is a feature added to the chosen gable base, not a separate structure, and it is placed where the product sits.
Gable Boxes with Window sit in the Gable Boxes range, on Auto Lock, Interlock or Seal End bases, and under Bakery Packaging.
What it has to do
What a Gable Box Window Has to Get Right
A gable box window has to show the product, leave enough board for the handle and folds, use a covering that suits the contents and fit the artwork around it. Each need below is matched to the option that meets it.
01
Show
Show the Product
The window is positioned against the packed contents, so it shows the treats, gift or product rather than empty space.02
Leave
Leave Board for the Structure
Cutting a window removes board. Placement keeps enough panel around the handle, folds, seams and base locks.03
Cover
Cover or Leave Open
Clear PET film closes the window and keeps small items in. An open die-cut suits larger items that cannot fall out.04
Fit
Fit the Artwork Around It
Print is planned around the window so the visible product becomes part of the design.05
Suit
Suit Food Where Relevant
For food, the window film and carton are confirmed for the food-contact conditions. See Food Gable Boxes.
Film-Covered vs Open Die-Cut Windows
Choose a film-covered window when small items or food need to stay enclosed, and an open die-cut when the product is large enough to stay in. The table compares the two.
| Attribute | Clear PET Film Window | Open Die-Cut Window |
|---|---|---|
| Enclosure | Closed | Open |
| Small items | Stay in | Can fall out |
| Food | Film confirmed for contact conditions | Food exposed at the opening |
| Access through opening | Covered | Open |
| Best for | Treats, candy, small gifts | Larger items, plants, toys |

How Do You Size and Place the Window?
Size the box to the packed product first, then place the window over the part of the product you want seen. Final window size and position are set on the approved dieline.
| Measurement | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Product | Packed dimensions |
| View | Which part of the product should show |
| Window | Panel, shape and approximate size |
| Covering | Clear PET or open |
Check the View on a Packed Sample
Pack a sample and look through the window from the front. Check that the product, not headspace or an insert, fills the view.
What to Check Before Bulk Production
Look at a packed, printed sample through the window before approval. Record the approved window size, position and covering on the signed-off sample.
| If the sample shows | Review before approval |
|---|---|
| Window shows empty space | Move the window or the product |
| Panel flexes near the handle | Reduce the window or move it down |
| Film wrinkles | Review film fit on the die-cut |
| Small items slip out | Switch to a film-covered window |
Seven days covers standard production from approved proof once the specification is confirmed; delivery timing is confirmed separately.
