Overview & Specifications
What Are Shipping Sleeves?
Shipping sleeves, also called mailer box sleeves, are open-ended printed sleeves fitted over a shipping box that is already specified for transit. They let one plain shipper carry different brands, products or seasons without printing the box itself.
Shipping Sleeves sit in Shipping & Logistics Packaging and are built on Custom Box Sleeves.
What it has to do
What a Shipping Sleeve Has to Do
A shipping sleeve has to brand the box, carry information, stay on through handling and leave the protection to the box. Each need below is matched to how it is met.
01
Brand
Brand a Plain Shipper
A printed sleeve turns a plain kraft mailer or carton into a branded one, so one box can serve several products or brands.02
Carry
Carry Product and Handling Information
Sleeve panels carry product identification, handling marks and fulfillment codes on a dedicated surface around the box.03
Stay
Stay On in Handling
The sleeve is sized to the finished box, but fit alone does not keep it on. Retention is confirmed on the complete parcel, with the shipping label applied, under the handling it will see. Where the label goes on the sleeve, the sleeve must stay with the box.04
Leave
Leave Protection to the Box
The box underneath is the shipping pack. Any added protection from the sleeve depends on material, geometry and the complete package.
Sleeved Mailer vs Fully Printed Mailer
A sleeved mailer adds print over a plain box; a fully printed mailer has the print on the box itself. The table compares them.
| Attribute | Sleeved Mailer | Fully Printed Mailer |
|---|---|---|
| What is printed | The sleeve | The mailer board |
| Change the design | Change the sleeve, keep the box | Reprint the box |
| One box, many products | Yes, with a sleeve per product | A printed box per design |
| Packing steps | Box plus sleeve | Box only |

What Size Shipping Sleeve Do I Need?
Measure the outside of the finished, closed shipping box. Final dimensions are set on the approved dieline.
| Measurement | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Finished box | Outside length, width and height |
| Box type | Mailer or carton |
| Information | Panels for product, handling and codes |
| Labels | Where the shipping label goes |
Measure the Finished Box
Measure a filled, closed box with any tape, not the nominal box size.
What to Check Before Bulk Production
Review sleeves on complete parcels, with the shipping label applied, handled as they will be in fulfillment and transit. Record the approved board, fit and print on the signed-off sample. Where a sample shows a problem, review the cause, revise the specification and confirm it on another packed sample.
| If the sample shows | Cause to review |
|---|---|
| Sleeve slides off in handling | Clearance, board and retention on the complete parcel |
| Shipping label will not stick to the sleeve | Sleeve surface and label adhesive |
| Codes do not scan | Print, contrast and placement |
| Sleeve scuffs in transit | Board and finish |
Seven days covers standard production from approved proof once the specification is confirmed; delivery timing is confirmed separately, so count back from the date you need stock.
