Overview & Specifications
What Is a Sticker Roll?
A sticker roll is a delivery format for pressure-sensitive labels: the labels are printed and cut on a continuous backing liner, spaced at a set gap and wound onto a core. The roll keeps every label in sequence, so they can be peeled one by one from a hand dispenser or fed into an applicator. The roll is the format; the face stock and adhesive are chosen separately.
How a Sticker Roll Works
The format works through three production details.
01
Labels on a Continuous Liner
Each label is kiss-cut through the face stock while the liner stays whole, and the material around the labels is usually removed or left in place, depending on the specification.
02
Wound onto a Core
The liner is wound onto a core at a set number of labels per roll, giving a known outer diameter for the dispenser or applicator.
03
Set Unwind Direction
The labels face in a chosen direction as the roll unwinds, so they come off the right way up for hand or machine application.
Anatomy of a Sticker Roll
01
Face Stock
The printed label material.
02
Adhesive
Permanent or removable, chosen for the surface.
03
Liner
Continuous backing the labels peel from.
04
Gap
Space between labels along the liner, used by applicators to sense each label.
05
Core
Tube or core the roll is wound on.
06
Unwind Direction
Which way the labels face as they come off.
Labels repeat along the roll, so artwork is set once per label size; for applicators, the unwind direction decides which way the artwork faces on the roll.
Sticker Roll vs Sticker Sheets at a Glance
| Feature | Sticker Roll | Sticker Sheets |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | One label after another on a long liner | Several stickers on one flat liner |
| Best for | Repeated labeling of many items | Sets, packs and giveaways |
| Application | Hand dispenser or applicator | By hand, one at a time |
| Mixed designs | Usually one design per roll | Different designs on one sheet |

When Is a Sticker Roll the Right Choice?
A sticker roll suits repeated labeling of many items with the same label: product labeling lines, food, beverage and cosmetic packaging, shipping and ecommerce workflows, and retail SKU labeling, whether labels are applied by hand from a dispenser or by an applicator.
01
Fast
Fast Repeated Labeling
Labels peel off in sequence, so there are no loose pieces to sort or separate.02
Organized
Organized Production Workflow
Rolls keep labels in order and fit dispensers or applicators where the roll specification matches.03
Equipment-Ready
Equipment-Ready Configuration
Core size, unwind direction and label spacing can be set to the labeling process.04

When Another Format May Fit Better
For a set of different designs to hand out together, choose Sticker Sheets. For stickers handed out one at a time or dropped into orders, see Individual Stickers. For window graphics without adhesive, use Static Cling Stickers.

What Size Sticker Roll Do You Need?
Quote by the label's width × height and shape, plus the labels per roll, core size and unwind direction if you use a dispenser or applicator. The roll's outer diameter follows from the label count, so it is checked against the equipment's maximum.
There is no fixed size list: any practical label size is built to order.
How Your Labeling Setup Becomes a Roll Specification
The figures below are planning references, not fixed manufacturing rules; final values come from your dispenser or applicator.
| Item | Typical Reference |
|---|---|
| Core inside diameter | Commonly 1 in (25 mm) for hand dispensers, 3 in (76 mm) for many applicators |
| Gap between labels | Commonly about 1/8 in (3 mm) |
| Labels per roll | Set by the maximum outer diameter of the equipment |
| Unwind direction | Matched to the applicator's label orientation |
Material Reference
| Material | Typically Suited To |
|---|---|
| Coated or kraft paper | Dry packaging, boxes and bags |
| BOPP or PET film | Bottles, jars and items exposed to moisture |
| Vinyl / PVC | Curved surfaces, and outdoor exposure when print, protection and adhesive are specified for it |
| Clear film | Labels that show the product or container through them |
Important: These are reference figures. Core, gap, unwind direction and adhesive must match your actual equipment and surface, so they are confirmed before production.
If you are unsure, share the dispenser or applicator model and the surface being labeled with the quote request, and the roll is specified around them.
Does Every Applicator Use the Same Roll Direction?
No. Unwind direction and core specifications must match the equipment, so the applicator's label orientation is confirmed on the proof.
