Overview & Specifications
What Are Satin Lined Boxes?
Satin lined boxes are rigid presentation boxes distinguished by a satin textile interior. The satin can cover the base, lid, insert or selected interior areas, while the underlying rigid structure, such as a two piece, hinged or drawer box, decides how the box opens. The lining is a feature added to a box, not a box structure of its own.
They are part of the Rigid Boxes range.
How Satin Lining Is Fitted
The satin is cut and wrapped over the insert, pad or interior panel, then fixed at the edges so the visible face stays smooth. Material tension, seams, folds and attachment points are planned with the insert, because the lining sits on top of whatever holds the product. Fit is confirmed on a sample.
01
Over the insert
satin covers pads, cavities and platforms so the product sits on fabric, not board.
02
Edges and seams
joins are placed where they are least visible when the box is open.
03
Clearance
the lining adds thickness, so slots and cavities are sized with it included.
04
Structure limits
lining stays clear of hinges, spines, fold zones and sliding surfaces so the box still opens and closes freely.
What it has to do
What a Satin Lining Has to Do
A satin lining has to give the product a soft contact surface, make the interior part of the reveal, work with the insert that holds the product and fit the structure without blocking how it opens. Each need below is matched to how the lining meets it.
01
Give
Give the Product a Soft Contact Surface
The textile lining can reduce direct contact with paper-wrapped rigid surfaces for suitable delicate products, such as polished metals or finished stones.02
Make
Make the Interior Part of the Reveal
Satin introduces sheen and softness inside the box, so the moment the lid lifts or the tray slides out becomes part of the presentation.03
Work
Work With the Insert, Not Replace It
The satin is the presentation surface; the insert under it keeps the product positioned. Where the product can shift, or must sit at a set angle, a fitted pad, slot or cavity under the satin holds it in place.04
Fit
Fit the Structure Without Blocking It
Each rigid structure has areas that must stay clear: the lid's closing path on a flip top, fold zones on a collapsible box, the tray-to-sleeve clearance on a drawer box.05
Look
Look Clean at Close Range
Jewelry and keepsake boxes are opened inches from the eye, so seams, tension and edge finishing are planned to look smooth up close.
Which Rigid Structure Fits Your Satin Lined Box?
Satin lining is available on all six rigid structures. Choose the structure by how the box should open, then place the lining where that structure allows.
| Structure | Where the Satin Goes | Decision Factor |
|---|---|---|
| Hinged Rigid Box | Interior, alone or with a fabric-lined foam insert | Compact ring, bracelet and necklace cases |
| Two Piece Rigid Box | Base, or a fabric-lined foam insert | Full lid-off access to the whole interior |
| Shoulder Neck Rigid Box | Selected interior surfaces or insert, clear of the neck-to-lid fit | Layered reveal with a visible collar |
| Flip Top Rigid Box | Interior, clear of the lid's closing path | Attached lid with inside-lid print |
| Custom Drawer Box | Tray interior, compatible with insert and sleeve-to-tray clearance | Sliding, staged reveal |
| Collapsible Rigid Box | Interior, clear of the fold zones | Boxes that ship and store flat |
Satin Lining vs Fabric-Lined Foam vs Bare Insert
Satin lining wraps a smooth, sheened fabric over the interior or insert. A fabric-lined foam insert is a cushioned foam piece already faced with fabric, which holds the product and gives a soft surface in one part. A bare insert (paperboard, foam/EVA or molded pulp) holds the product without a textile surface.
| Attribute | Satin Lining | Fabric-Lined Foam Insert | Bare Insert |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Satin fitted over interior surfaces or an insert | Foam insert faced with fabric | Paperboard, foam/EVA or molded pulp |
| Product contact | Smooth satin | Fabric face | Board, foam or pulp |
| Look | Sheen, decorative | Soft, matte fabric | Printed, plain or natural |
| Holds the product | Through the insert under it | Yes, cut to the product | Yes, cut to the product |
| Best fit | Jewelry, keepsakes, gifts where the interior is part of the reveal | Jewelry and small items needing a soft, fitted hold | Kits, sets and paper-led builds |

Where Can Satin Lining Go in the Box?
Satin lining is a coverage choice, not a size. It can cover the base, the inside lid, the insert or the full interior, depending on the product and the structure. The box itself is sized from the product and insert, with the lining's thickness included in the fit.
| Coverage | What It Does | Typically Suited To |
|---|---|---|
| Base or tray only | Soft surface under the product | Boxes where the lid carries print |
| Insert face | Satin over the pad or cavity holding the product | Rings, necklaces, bracelets, small keepsakes |
| Inside lid | Satin panel seen as the box opens | Hinged and two piece presentation boxes |
| Full interior | Base, walls and lid lined | Keepsake and commemorative boxes |
Important: Box size comes from the product and insert. Use the size guide on the chosen structure's page, such as the Hinged Rigid Box, and the lining fit is confirmed on a sample.
