Overview & Specifications
What Are Mylar Bags with Window?
Mylar bags with window are flexible pouches that combine printed or opaque areas with a sealed transparent section for direct product visibility. The window stays part of the closed package and can be a small reveal, a strip, a custom shape or a larger clear panel depending on the pouch format and production method.
They are part of the Mylar Bags range. A fully transparent front is a different construction, a clear-front pouch, and is planned as such.
What it has to do
What Products Need from a Window Pouch
A window pouch has to show the product without giving up too much protection, put the clear area where the product actually sits and work with the artwork around it. Each need below is matched to how Mylar bags with window meet it.
01
Show
Show the Product Before Purchase
A clear viewing area lets customers inspect color, texture, size or appearance without opening the pouch, which helps in categories where the look of the product drives the sale.02
Keep
Keep the Barrier Where It Matters
Transparent areas provide less light protection than opaque or metallized sections. Window size and placement are selected alongside the product's sensitivity to light, moisture, oxygen and aroma.03
Place
Place the Window Around the Fill
The clear area is positioned against the expected fill level so it shows the product, not empty headspace, and stays clear of zipper tracks, spout fitments, gusset folds and seal zones.04
Design
Design Artwork Around the Clear Area
Artwork is designed around the window so the visible product becomes part of the package design rather than a feature added after the design is complete.05
Meet
Meet Food-Contact Needs Where Required
For food, the clear film, inks, adhesives, seals and other components are specified for the intended food-contact conditions, separately from barrier performance.
Window vs Clear-Front vs Fully Opaque Pouches
A window pouch shows a defined part of the product while most of the panel stays printed or opaque. A clear-front pouch shows nearly the whole front but gives the least light protection. A fully opaque pouch shows nothing but protects best against light.
| Feature | Window Pouch | Clear-Front Pouch | Fully Opaque Pouch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product visibility | Defined viewing area | Most of the front panel | None; graphics only |
| Light protection | Reduced at the window | Lowest on the front | Full panel |
| Print area | Planned around the window | Mainly back panel and labels | Whole surface |
| Best for | Snacks, candy, nuts, pet treats | Products sold on appearance with low light sensitivity | Light-sensitive products such as coffee and chocolate |
Which Pouch Format Fits Your Window Bag?
Windows can be developed on Stand Up, Flat Bottom, 3 Side Seal, Spout and Back Seal pouches. Stand Up pouches with window are the most common retail choice; Flat Bottom adds side panels that can carry a window; 3 Side Seal suits flat packs; Spout and Back Seal need the window planned around the fitment or seam.
| Format | Best for with a window | Decision factor |
|---|---|---|
| Stand Up Pouch | Retail snacks, candy and dry goods | Front window sits above the gusset at the fill line |
| Flat Bottom Bag | Larger shelf packs | Window can sit on the front or a side panel |
| 3 Side Seal Pouch | Flat samples and portions | Window placed within the seal frame |
| Spout Pouch | Pourable products | Window kept clear of the fitment area |
| Back Seal Bag | Pillow-style snack packs | Window registered on a continuous film |

What Size Window Do I Need?
The window should show the product at its settled fill level and leave enough printed area for branding and required information. Start from the pouch size, mark where the product will sit after filling and settling, then place the window over that zone.
Fill line first: products settle after filling, so the window is placed below the settled fill line, not at the top of the bag.
Panel space: keep enough printed area for the brand, ingredients, barcodes and other required information.
Light sensitivity: the more light-sensitive the product, the smaller the window should be.
Clear zones: keep the window away from zippers, spouts, gusset folds and seal areas.
Important: Final window size and shape depend on the film structure and production method. For pouch reference sizes by fill weight, see the Stand Up Pouch size guide; window placement is confirmed on the dieline with a trial fill.
