Overview & Specifications

What Are PR Boxes?

PR boxes are the packaging around a product sent to the media for review or coverage. They protect the product, show who sent it, and carry the story: a printed card and a link to the press kit with specs, prices, images and a press contact.

PR Boxes sit in PR & Promotions and are built on Custom Roll End Tuck Top Boxes, Custom Two Piece Rigid Boxes or Custom Flip Top Rigid Boxes.

What it has to do

What a Journalist Needs from a PR Box

A journalist opens a PR box at a desk, often among many others, to decide whether the product is worth a story. Each need below is matched to how it is met.

  • 01

    Product

    Product Ready to Test

The product sits in an insert cut to its shape, so it is held in place and can be lifted out and tried. Protection is confirmed on a packed transit sample. Any setup, charging, storage or use-by note is printed inside the lid or on the card.
  • 02

    Story

    The Story on One Card

A printed card names the product, price, launch date and press contact. A QR code links to the online press kit, so the box does not need to hold printed releases.
  • 03

    Sender

    Sender Obvious at a Glance

The brand name sits on the outside and the card. A box that cannot be identified on a crowded desk is easily set aside.
  • 04

    Easy

Easy to Open on a Desk

A mailer tuck lid or a lift-off rigid lid is simple to open. How easily the box opens on arrival also depends on the final closure and any shipping seal.
Customization

Customize Your PR Boxes

PR boxes are customized around four choices: structure, insert, press card and finish. Start with the structure, because it decides how the box is mailed and which add-ons fit.

01

Structure

Roll end tuck top mailer for a box that can be posted once its shipping specification is confirmed; lift-off or magnetic flip-top rigid for a presentation box inside an outer shipper.

02

Insert

A cavity per item, or a tray holding the product and its accessories.

03

Press Card

Product name, price, launch or embargo date, press contact and a QR code to the press kit.

04

Finish

Logo foil, inside-lid print, or soft-touch lamination on a rigid wrap.

Ordering

How to Order PR Boxes

Ordering PR boxes takes five steps: share the product and send date, confirm the structure and dieline, approve the artwork proof, move into production, and ship. Orders start at 500 units, with standard production in 7 days from approved proof after the final specification is confirmed.

  1. 01

    Request a Quote

Share the product, quantity, structure preference, whether boxes are mailed and your send date. Packaging Dock typically responds to quote requests within 24 hours.

  2. 02

    Confirm the Structure and Dieline

Structure, size and insert are set around the product. Packaging Dock then provides a custom dieline.

  3. 03

    Approve the Artwork and Proof

Artwork is prepared on the dieline with free design support available. Card text and QR codes are checked on the proof before approval. QR codes are scan-tested on the printed sample.

  4. 04

    Production

Production begins after the artwork proof and final specification are approved. Standard production is 7 days from approved proof, with rush production available on request.

  5. 05

    Shipping

Finished boxes ship to you or your agency across the USA and worldwide. Transit method, delivery time and shipping cost depend on the destination, order volume and shipment requirements.

Sample note: A pre-production sample can be packed with your product before the full production run.

FAQ

PR Box FAQs

What goes in a PR box?

The product, a fitted insert, and a card with the product name, price, launch date, press contact and a link to the press kit.

What is the difference between a PR box and a press kit?

A PR box delivers the product to test; a press kit gives the facts and images. A press kit box carries both, usually as a card with a QR link.

Can the card carry a QR code?

Yes. Code size, contrast and quiet zone are planned on the proof; scanning is confirmed on the printed sample with the final finish and in its applied position.

Can each box carry the recipient's name?

Yes, where variable-data printing is confirmed for the chosen print process and component, such as the card.

Can rigid PR boxes be mailed?

Rigid boxes are mailed inside an outer shipper. A mailer can go alone once its shipping specification is confirmed for the packed product.

Do you pack and send the boxes?

No. Packaging Dock supplies the packaging; your team or agency packs and sends.

Can I get a sample before ordering?

Yes. Complimentary sample kits ship within two business days; the customer covers shipping. A pre-production sample can also be packed with your product.

What is the minimum order and lead time?

Orders start at 500 units from $1.25 per unit. Standard production is 7 days from approved proof once the final specification is confirmed, with rush production available on request.
