Overview & Specifications
What Are Kraft Soap Boxes?
Kraft soap boxes are soap cartons made from kraft paperboard, the brown board made from less-bleached fiber, instead of white coated board. The brown surface shows through the print, so inks, coverage and finishes are chosen for that base color.
Kraft soap boxes belong to the Tuck Boxes range and are listed under Soap Packaging.
What Kraft Changes for a Soap Box
Kraft changes how print reads, how the board takes oil, how the carton looks next to white cartons and what can be claimed about it. Each point below is matched to the option that handles it.
Print Reads Darker on Brown Board
Inks sit on a brown base, so light colors and fine detail can lose contrast. How each color reads depends on the kraft board, any coating and the ink set, so the artwork is checked on a printed proof on the actual board.
Oils Can Mark the Board
Oils and fragrance can mark board. Whether a given soap marks it depends on the formula, the board and any coating, so a packed sample is left with the bar before approval. An inner wrap or liner keeps the bar off the board where needed.
The Natural Look Is the Design
Many soap makers use kraft so the box reads as simple and unbleached. Light print coverage keeps that look; full coverage hides it.
Material Claims Need Their Own Proof
Kraft board alone does not prove a box recyclable or compostable. Environmental claims follow the FTC Green Guides and are made only with evidence for the finished package.
Kraft vs White Soap Boxes
Choose kraft when the brown base supports the design and white board when colors must print true. The table compares the two.
| Attribute | Kraft Paperboard | White SBS Paperboard |
|---|---|---|
| Base color | Brown | Bright white |
| Color result | Confirm on a printed sample | Confirm on a printed sample |
| Typical look | Natural, simple | Clean, bright |
| Oil marking | Depends on board, coating and ink | Depends on board, coating and ink |
| Typical fit | Handmade, natural and unscented bars | Bright brand colors and photos |
For white-board cartons see Custom Soap Boxes.

How Do You Size a Kraft Soap Box?
Size a kraft soap box from the cured bar exactly as a white one; kraft changes the look, not the fit. Record the bar, any wrap and the panel that carries the most copy. The Straight Tuck End sizing guide lists carton allowances.
| Measurement | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Bar | Cured length, width and thickness |
| Wrap or liner | Added thickness |
| Copy panel | Panel that carries ingredients and weight |
| Range | Every bar size in the line |
Print a Test on Kraft
Ask for a printed sample on the actual kraft board. Check that the scent name and copy stay readable at arm's length.
What to Check Before Bulk Production
Review a printed, packed sample on kraft board. Record the approved board, ink coverage and liner on the signed-off sample.
| If the sample shows | Review before approval |
|---|---|
| Colors look muddy | Adjust inks and coverage for the kraft base |
| Dark patches from oil | Add a liner or inner wrap |
| Small text hard to read | Increase size or contrast |
Seven days covers standard production from approved proof once the specification is confirmed; delivery timing is confirmed separately.
