Overview & Specifications
What Are Cookie and Bakery Sleeves?
Cookie and bakery sleeves are printed wraps for baked goods. They work in two ways: around food that is already wrapped, such as a cookie stack in film, or around a bakery box, tray or bag. In both cases the sleeve brands the package; it is not the box.
Cookie and Bakery Sleeves sit in the Custom Sleeves range and under Bakery Packaging.
What it has to do
Sleeve Around Wrapped Food or Around a Box?
A bakery sleeve either wraps food that is already wrapped or wraps a box, tray or bag, and the two need different checks. A sleeve around wrapped cookies touches only the wrap; a sleeve that touches unwrapped food needs board confirmed for contact; a sleeve around a box needs a fit to the box.
01
Around
Around Wrapped Food
Cookie stacks, bars and slices in film or a bag touch only the wrap. The sleeve is sized to the wrapped stack and holds it together.02
Touching
Touching Unwrapped Food
When the sleeve touches the food, food-contact board is available on request. Confirm all food-contact surfaces, including board, coatings, inks and any window film, for the food type, contact time and temperature.03
Around
Around a Box, Tray or Bag
The sleeve is sized to the outside of the box, tray or bag and slides on after packing. One plain box can carry several sleeve designs.04
Grease
Grease and Moisture
Grease and moisture are managed by the wrap, liner or box. Grease-resistant board is selected only where the sleeve itself meets them.
Cookie Sleeves vs Bakery Boxes
Choose a sleeve to brand a wrapped stack or an existing box and a bakery box when the package has to hold and close around the food. The table compares the two.
| Attribute | Cookie or Bakery Sleeve | Bakery Box (Pastry Boxes) |
|---|---|---|
| Job | Brands a wrapped stack or a box | Holds and closes around the food |
| Closure | Slides on, open ends | Tuck or lock closure |
| Food contact | Wrapped food, or board confirmed for contact | Board confirmed for contact |
| Best for | Cookie stacks, bars, boxed sets | Pastries, cakes, donuts |

How Do You Size a Cookie or Bakery Sleeve?
Measure the finished package the sleeve goes around: the wrapped cookie stack, or the box, tray or bag. Add a small sliding allowance; the final size is set on the approved dieline.
| Measurement | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Package | Wrapped stack, box, tray or bag |
| Outside size | Width, height and depth |
| Contact | Wrapped food or direct contact |
| Window | Area to show, if used |
Slide a Sample Over the Real Package
Slide a printed sample over the wrapped stack or packed box. Check that it holds without crushing the bake and the window shows the food.
What to Check Before Bulk Production
Review a sample on the real package, printed with the final artwork. Record the approved size, board and contact surfaces on the signed-off sample.
| If the sample shows | Review before approval |
|---|---|
| Sleeve slides off | Review size and board on a new sample |
| Sleeve crushes the stack | Review size on a new sample |
| Grease marks the sleeve | Confirm the wrap, liner or grease-resistant board |
| Window shows the wrap, not the bake | Move the window |
Seven days covers standard production from approved proof once the specification is confirmed; delivery timing is confirmed separately.
