Overview & Specifications
What Is Limited Edition Packaging?
Limited edition packaging is packaging that marks a product as part of a release that will not be repeated. It looks different from the regular range, often carries an edition number, and often uses rigid structures made for display and reuse.
Limited Edition Boxes sit in Campaigns and are built on Custom Two Piece Rigid Boxes, Custom Shoulder Neck Rigid Boxes, Custom Flip Top Rigid Boxes or Custom Box Sleeves.
What it has to do
What a Limited Edition Needs from the Box
A limited edition has to look unlike the regular range, identify the edition, and suit display or reuse. Each need below is matched to how it is met.
01
Edition
The Edition Identified
An edition number such as "No. 001 of 500" on the box, sleeve or a label identifies each unit within the edition. The number identifies; the size of the release is the brand's decision. Numbering is confirmed for the chosen print process and component.02
Made
Made for Display
A shoulder neck box, with its raised inner collar, or a side-opening flip-top that opens like a book, is made for display or reuse after the product is used.03
Different
Different from the Regular Range
A change of material, such as metallic, holographic or textured wrap, foil or emboss, separates the edition from the everyday box at a glance.04
Run
Run Matched to the Drop
The run is ordered to the edition size plus a small allowance for damage, from 500 units.
Limited Edition Box vs Limited Sleeve on the Regular Box
A new limited edition box gives the edition its own rigid structure; a limited sleeve over the regular box marks the edition without a new box. The table compares them.
| Attribute | Limited Edition Box | Limited Sleeve on the Regular Box |
|---|---|---|
| What changes | A new box for the edition | A sleeve over the existing box |
| Structure | Rigid box made for display or reuse | Sleeve over the regular box, often removed |
| Contents | Can differ from the regular product | Must still fit the regular box |
| Numbering | On the box or a label | On the sleeve or a label |
| Best for | Collector and collaboration editions | Short drops on the regular product |

What Size Limited Edition Box Do I Need?
Measure the edition product with any certificate or extra, then add room for the insert. For a sleeve, measure the outside of the packed regular box. Final dimensions are set on the approved dieline.
| Measurement | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Product | Length, width and height |
| Extras | Certificate card, print or accessory |
| Edition size | Number of units in the run |
| Route | New box, or sleeve over the regular box |
Check the Sleeve Route First
A limited sleeve works only when the edition's contents still fit the regular box. If the edition adds items, fit is reassessed: a revised insert may work, or the edition may need its own box.
What to Check Before Bulk Production
Review a sample with the real product, edition mark and final finish. Record the approved structure, numbering method and finish on the signed-off sample. Where a sample shows a problem, review the cause, revise the specification and confirm it on another packed sample.
| If the sample shows | Cause to review |
|---|---|
| Edition number hard to read | Number size, contrast and print process |
| Lid sticks on the shoulder neck | Lid-to-neck fit with the final wrap |
| Foil breaks on textured wrap | Foil line weight against the paper texture |
| Sleeve slides off the regular box | Clearance against the packed box |
Seven days covers standard production from approved proof once the specification is confirmed; delivery timing is confirmed separately, so count back from your drop date.
